Our Mission is... To provide Motorcyle Fans of all age with fun, Innovative product to enrich their lives and express their love in motorcroos.
Company History Welcome to my dream. Since 1995 I dream of creating a company like Smooth Induatries. A company that offers motorcross fans cool, fun and innovative products featuring images of top riders and teams that they love and respect.
I have been a fan of motocross myself for over 25 years now, and like most kids, I too cut out photos from the pages of motorcross magazines and taped them to my bedroom wall. I was also into team sports such as football and baseball so my walls were also adorned with pennants of my favorite teams, as well as hats neatly astacked on shelves and thousand of baseball cards stuffed in custom boxes. There were also miniature baseball bats lined up againts the wall.If any of these products were available for motorcross back then, my room would have been more like Tom White's Early Years of Motorcross Museum.
Fast forward several years and as I was finishing up my stint as as editor at Motorcross Action magazine, I envisioned a company that designed and manufactured the same products I had plastered all over of my childhood room, albeit items specifically tier to motorcross. The first idea I had was kids pajamas that looked like the riding gear that riders like Damon Bradshaw and Jeff Stanton wore. I envisioned kids running around the hause as if they were starring in a real life Supercross main event.
I know i was on something, but it was until I met with Jim Hale, owner of Axo Sport America, Renthal U.S and Mechanix Wear that my idea was validated by a respected industry expert. Hale told me such a product line could work and agreed to help me get it started. I was stoked. I had long considered Hale a true visionary and in my eyes if he like my idea, I knew i was onthe right track.
Unfortunately our collaborative effort had to be abandoned while I was at AXO,as Hale was in the midst of staring Mechanix Wear at the same time. It obviously turned out to be aonther spot-on decision for him as Mechanix Wear has since grown into hugely successful, multi-million dollar company.
Over the next few years, I continued to try and get things rolling myself. In between working with Tim and Cindy Clark (who are also involved in mini Moto SX held each year in Las Vegas in conjunction with the SX Finale) where I assisted with the writing and editing of the first years worth of Kawasaki Team Green magazine and doing sports marketing at Jet Pilot, I also handled product development for No Fear Motorsports, ran Jeremy McGrath's wesite www.nacnac.com http://www.nacnac.com (where we featured some of the first"live" chat sessions with Jeremy and his fans) and did private label design and production for a handful of companies in and out of the motorcross industry.
Though things were looking up, I suffered an unfortunate setback after a factory I was working with in China "supposedly" went out of business, taking my original designs, patterns and $12,000 deposit along with it. I began thinking maybe my dream wasn't meant to be. Fortunately, not long after that devastating experience. a friend of mine introduced me to Keith O'Neal. Keith's father Jim O'Neal owns O'Neal Distributing (O'Neal Motorcross, Blur, Azonic And Four) and Keith had been assisting with production for some time. I figured since he already had the experience and the contacts for getting the replica pajamas made, he would make the perfect partner.
In 2004, I realized the company was in holding pattern and not real growing at the rate I felt it had the potential for. I had grand vissions of a full catalog of motorcross inspired items, and yet we had a handful of product. Driven with the desire to take the company and provide much of the necessary experience and groundwork to get off to a fantastic start and for this i am forever grateful.
I am proud to say that each year since, Smooth Industries has recorded continuos growth, thanks to the introduction of countlessnew products, all geared specially to the young motorcross enthusiast. Smooth continues to enjoy phenomenal growth and today remains the premier motorcross-inspired youth Licensed apparel and product company in the world.
Smooth now has a dozen licenses, over sixty products in six categories and has distribution network in nearly twenty countries around the world. The company also has recently expanded into a new, larger 8,000 square-foot facillity, where its corporate offices and warehouse are all under one roof.
Bullit from the soul and foundation of the sport, and its brightest stars, we simlpy would not exist without the racers and there dedicated fans.As such, we consider ourselves fortunate to also call these fans our loyal customers. Believe me whene I say, we sincerely appreciate all of your support.
I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to license guys like Jeremy, Travis Pastrana, Kevin Windham, Chad Reed, Brian Deegan, Ronnie Renner and the Monstar Pro Circuit, Rockstar Makita Suzuki and Factory Connection Teams. Alpinestar,FMF,Ogio,One Industries, Pro Circuit, Racer X and Renthal have also been extremely gracious in allowing us to use thier logos from they one. While i am confident we could have still come up with the same killer designs, featuring the same type of products earlier mentioned without these lisenses, it definitely allowed us to provided the true motorcross fans with "authentic" products for everyday use.
I also have to think all of my employees and especially my family, who over the years have given so much of thier lives to helping me realize my dream. Because of thier love and support, they have helped turn my dream into reality and for that i am forever grateful.
