The history of the brand CARRERA begins in the field of sports glasses, ski goggles and helmets far in 1956: it’s the story of an extraordinary adventure set between innovation and sport, made of passion and successes.

Founded in 1953 in Traun Austria. Carrera was named after the Mexican car race, the Carrera Panamericana.

From the first draft to the final design, from a raw shape to a final prototype and the final selection of colors, the Research and Development department in Padua designs their sunglasses internally.

Half a century of international victories in many sports represents the result of a complete passion for product development and continuous technological research.

Today CARRERA is a synonym of technology, safety, innovation and design.

Being a leader means to be ahead of the time: this is the attitude that CARRERA has always been following, offering in the van products and launching successful sunglasses, eyeglasses, ski helmets and goggles. In order to guarantee and constantly improve their quality, CARRERA products are studied and developed in collaboration with athletes and benefit from the experience of SAFILO, which has been representing from the ‘70s the best in the eyewear sector all over the world.

Carrera Sunglasses are designed for athletes taking part in extreme sports of all kinds. All of Carrera's Sunglasses are developed with a ground-breaking and practical design without forgetting about today's fashion trends. All products are not only tested in the laboratory, but also by the athletes who use them during training and competitions. Famous athletes who wear Carrera Sunglasses include NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt Jr. and former New York Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason.

Established by the Tabacchi family in 1934, Safilo manufactures and distributes eyeglass frames, sport goggles and sunglasses, selling its products in sporting goods stores and through opticians under their own Carrera and Smith brands and more than twenty licensed names including Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Kate Spade, Liz Claiborne and Hugo Boss.

Using subsidiaries and distributors through out the world, Safilo offers its products in over 120 countries.
